United Kingdom: Opening of the Energy Recovery Facility in Portsmouth
On 12 December 2006, His Royal Highness the Duke of York, inaugurated the Integra South East Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) in Portsmouth, managed by VEOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES , under contract with the Hampshire County Council, the Portsmouth City Council and Southampton.
His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Mrs Mary Fagan JP, the High Sheriff for Hampshire, Mrs Jane Benson, the Lord Mayor of Portsmouth ,Councillor Fred Charlton were also present.
The Portsmouth Energy Recovery Facility ( ERF) processes 165,000 tons of non-recyclable waste annually. It generates 14 MW of electricity which is supplied to the National Grid and powers approximately 14,000 homes.
Each of the two incineration lines with a capacity of 12 t/h, supplied by CNIM, is fitted with a LAB semi-wet type flue gas treatment system including non-catalytic NOx abatement (SNCR) using dry urea.
CNIM has already delivered the Marchwood (2 x 12t/h) plant to VEOLIA ENVIRONMENT UK in 2005 and the Chineham plant (1 x 12 th) in 2004.
The construction of these three highly efficient plants is part of a remarkable, global integrated waste management scheme called “Project Integra” set up by the Hampshire County Council, representing the best multi-process waste treatment infrastructure in the UK.
